En la actualidad pueden señalarse tres formas de dividir la historia que se aplican de manera particular o simultánea, de acuerdo a las necesidades o aspectos que se deseen profundizar.
Si ordenamos por periodos cronológicamente, nos muestran como abarcan grandes plazos que frecuentemente se extienden a cientos o miles de años, en los que se observan agrupaciones de sucesos semejantes sobre aspectos básicos de la vida humana.
Para esta periodización hoy en día es aceptado dividir a la historia en: prehistoria e historia con sus correspondientes subdivisiones.
Las características que separan estas dos grandes etapas es la invención de la escritura con la que cada pueblo comenzó a dejar testimonios escritos.

At this time we can see three different ways to divide the history, that depends on the particular or general necessities to study a specific historical topic.
If we put in a chronological order the historical facts, we can see how they cover hundred or thousand years, and through those periods we can observe the important aspects of the human life.
Today we have accepted to divide the history in: prehistory and history with their own subdivisions.
The invention of the writing is the main feature to separate these big stages of the history, because with these writings the human began to leave testimony of life in this world.
