In dentistry, the effectiveness of degradation in dental composite has been proven using weathering chamber; it combines variables as the UV radiation and temperature. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of accelerated aging on the surface of composite disks, valued by Environmental Scanning Electron Microscopy (ESEM). Twelve resin composite disks were made for each material: Filtek Z-250 - Filtek Supreme / 3M ESPE and Tetric Ceram - Tetric EvoCeram / Ivoclar Vivadent; using a stainless steel mold of 15mm - diameter x 1mm – depth, and cure according ISO 4049. The specimens were divided in four groups (according the time under aging conditions): “A” (no aging), “B” (500 hours of aging), “C” (1000 hours of aging) and “D” (1500 hours of aging). The specimens were subjected to accelerated aging using a weathering chamber (QPannel), following a cycle of 4 hours of UV radiation at 60 °C and 4 hours of condensation at 40 °C. Once concluded the time in the weathering chamber, the surface was scanning and registered images to 300, 900 and 1500 increases of the most representative areas. The description was in narrative form, comparing that observed between witness group and the studied groups. The surface presented evident changes after 500 hours in the weathering chamber, in the other groups possible elimination of the superficial layers was observed.es
