Caracterización de cenizas volcánicas depositadas en la ciudad de Puebla

Resumen

La ciudad de Puebla se localiza a 40 km al este del volcán Popocatépetl, siendo el destino frecuente de cenizas volcánicas que se desplazan en dirección sureste-noreste hacia la zona metropolitana. Una serie de cenizas recolectadas en los años 2012, 2015, 2016, 2017 y 2019 han sido caracterizadas mediante la textura, mineralogía y pruebas de lixiviación en agua desionizada. Los resultados establecen que la textura de las cenizas depositadas varía de arena limosa a arena, siendo clasificadas como cenizas gruesas no porosas inalteradas. Las cenizas tienen una composición andesítica con plagioclasas (70-80%) y piroxenos (20-25%) como minerales principales, destacando que en las plagioclasas se identifica un proceso de albitización de anortita. El análisis de los componentes lixiviados ha definido dos facies Ca-Mg-HCO3 y Ca-Mg-Cl y/o Ca-Mg-SO4, con As, Al y Fe como principales elementos traza, cuyos orígenes se asocian a la disolución parcial de las plagioclasas y piroxenos promovida por gases magmáticos o hidroclásticos.
