Mecanosíntesis de Gd0.3Sr0.7Fe12O19: estructura cristalina y propiedades magnéticas

Resumen

En este trabajo se presentan resultados del uso de molienda de alta energía para producir hexaferrita de estroncio dopada con gadolinio, Gd0.3Sr0.7Fe12O19. El objetivo de este trabajo fue estudiar la relación entre las condiciones de síntesis de los polvos de hexaferrita, la estructura cristalina y sus propiedades magnéticas (magnetización de saturación y coercitividad). Mezclas estequiométricas de polvos de Gd2O3, SrCO3 y Fe2O3, fueron sometidas a molienda durante 5 h, en un molino SPEX 8000D en atmósfera de aire, empleando una relación en peso bolas:polvo de 10:1. Los polvos molidos se sometieron a tratamiento térmico durante 2 h a temperaturas entre 500 y 1200°C. Se empleó difracción de RX para elucidar la estructura cristalina en función de la temperatura de tratamiento térmico. Las propiedades magnéticas se determinaron mediante el empleo de un magnetómetro de muestra vibrante (MMV). Los resultados mostraron que es factible obtener Gd0.3Sr0.7Fe12O19 con estructura hexagonal mediante mecanosíntesis y posterior tratamiento térmico a temperatura superior a 800°C, con la presencia de hematita, Fe2O3, que no ha reaccionado completamente. Incrementos de temperatura en el tratamiento no modifican la estructura cristalina, sólo disminuye la cantidad de hematita presente y por lo tanto, las propiedades magnéticas. Los polvos sintetizados presentaron alta coercitividad (7.7 kOe) y adecuada magnetización de saturación, 43.7 emu/g, a 18 kOe, un poco inferior a la reportada debido a la presencia de pequeñas proporciones de hematita.
