Effect of sintering on the properties of lanthanum-nickel ferrite

Abstract

Lanthanum ferrite powders doped with 0.3 mol of nickel (LaNi0.3Fe0.7O3) were synthesized using high energy milling, and the effect of sintering temperature on the dielectric and magnetic properties was evaluated. X-ray diffraction (XRD) confirmed the successful obtaining of Ni doped LaFeO3 with orthorhombic Pbnm structure without the presence of secondary phases. Vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM) analyses show a ferromagnetic behavior for the sintered sample at 1073 K. The analysis of the dielectric properties using LCR equipment shows that the variation of the relative permittivity and dielectric losses decrease significantly with increasing frequency, while the conductivity decreases with respect to the increase in sintering temperature, such behavior is attributed to the structural distortions caused by the Ni due to the decrease of the Fe-O-Fe bond angles.
