Nature of the decomposition reaction of thallium jarosite in CaO medium

Keywords: Thallium jarosite, Decomposition, Model, Alkaline, Reaction

Abstract

In this study of the decomposition alkaline was used one thallium jarosite synthesized of formula [Tl0.86

(H3O)0.14] Fe3.11 (SO4)2.11 (OH)6.11(H2O)0.44; according to the characterization used, whose particles are hemispherical geometry an average size of 38 µm. The decomposition experiments were performed in CaOH medium and according to the decomposition curve presented; one induction period followed by a period of conversion and stability zone; indicating that the reaction ended no change in the concentration of SO42- and Tl+ ions that are released during the decomposition of jarosite thallium. Experimental points in the decomposition reaction CaOH, are preferably adapted to model decreasing core of spherical particles of constant size, where the chemical reaction controls the process of decomposition and solid products of total decomposition, correspond to an amorphous compound of according to XRD. By SEM-EDS they were studied partially decomposed solids; presenting a core has not reacted, a front reaction and layer of ash.
