Distribution of mineral deposits in the State of Hidalgo and its relationship with the geological provinces
Abstract
In the state of Hidalgo, central Mexico, concur four geological provinces, with a wide variety of geologic contexts: the southeastern portion of the Folded and Faulted Mexican Belt, covering 55% of the Hidalgo state, the eastern segment of the Trans Mexican Volcanic Belt, covering 25% of the state, the southern edge of the Gulf of Mexico Geocline (10% coverage), and the southeastern edge of the Valles-San Luis Potosi Platform, covering the remainder 10%. Ore deposits are present in the assemblage of the geological provinces of the Hidalgo state, but they are mostly widespread in the Folded and Faulted Mexican Belt and the Trans Mexican Volcanic Belt. From the point of view of their typology and age, both, lithological and geological favorable structures are responsible for the occurrence of diversified ore deposits. This work is a short analysis of the ore deposit distribution in the State. Compared with the extension of Mexico, state of Hidalgo has a short extension; nevertheless, it is the source of raw material as well as manganese, silver, lead, zinc, gold, copper, claystones, calcium carbonate, quarry, pumice stone, marble, and cement industry. Theabovementioned deposits explain the more than 500 years mining boom of the state of Hidalgo.
