Analysis and characterization of liquors from kaolin leaching

Abstract

In this work, the results of the chemical analysis and the characterization of the liquors from the leaching of kaolinitic clays of the State of Veracruz, through the use of citric acid and sodium thiosulfate, are presented. The study allowed knowing the metal ions contained in them, whose determination was made by chemical analysis by induction coupled plasma spectroscopy (ICP). The characterization of the leached mineral was carried out by means of X-ray diffraction, in order to verify that the contaminants extracted by leaching have actually been partially or totally eliminated from the kaolin. The results of the chemical analysis of the leaching liquors showed the presence of Fe, Ti and Si, which must be eliminated before being discharged into the environment or reused. The diffractograms obtained showed the decrease in the signals of the peaks corresponding to Fe.
