Ecosystem restoration: ¿protect them from humans or use them sustainably?
Abstract
The United Nations declared 2021 to 2030 as the “Decade on Ecosystem Restoration”, to prevent, halt and reverse loss of nature around the world. This is transcendental considering that we are experiencing an environmental crisis, since we have exceeded some planetary limits such as climate change, the change in the integrity of the biosphere and the change in terrestrial systems. In this article we do a basic review of the two philosophical schools of conservation: the compositionalist and the functionalist. Likewise, we discuss the differences of each of them in the approach to ecosystem restoration. The conservation of natural resources is our responsibility, we must all act appropriately.
