Abstract

The loggerhead shrike is a songbird that provides environmental services such as pest control. It has a peculiar way of storing its prey by spearing them on the thorns or spines of plants, which lends it its name in Spanish (verdugo; executioner). The species has a wide range, from southern Canada to southern Mexico, and has even been sighted in the city of Pachuca, Hidalgo, Mexico. This article helps us learn more about our local fauna.
