Abstract

The guapilla (Hechtia podantha Mez) is a bromeliad that shares characters with agaves: the rosette-like shape and succulent leaves armed with spines on their margins. However, the species has some characteristics that distinguish it from agaves. Here, a series of questions and curious data are answered about the life history of the guapilla, which will allow you to learn wonderful things from an aggressive plant that you will never see in the same way again.
