The lives and ornithological work of three American Women

Keywords: Womwn scientists, birds, history

Abstract

Information is provided regarding the scientific work of three American women: Florence Augusta Merriam Bailey, Cordelia Stanwood and Betsy Bang whose contributions to ornithology are still relevant today. This knowledge is the result of their life experiences that span the nineteenth and twentieth centuries; the main focus on this paper are their contributions to bird protection, detailed field studies on reproductive biology of unknown species and their physiological-behavioral aspects. It should be noted that because most scientific work of the time was dominated by men the efforts of these women did not become widespread.
