Evaluation of the nutritional content of flavoured chocolate milks

Abstract

Flavored milk is considered to be the product that has been incorporated from other ingredients such as flavors, sweeteners and natural or artificial colors, and that contains at least 85% milk suitable for human consumption. The objective of the work was to evaluate the nutritional composition reported in the labeling of flavored milk with chocolate flavor that is sold in Pachuca, Hidalgo, considering what is established in the Official Mexican Norms that regulate this type of product. In general, the milks met the protein parameters, Vitamins A and D, however, the amount of sugars exceeds the values ​​allowed by the standard and by the recommendations established by the World Health Organization (WHO). These products are characterized by their content of colorants, sugars and visual attractiveness in the packaging that causes consumer preference, especially for the child population. Frequent consumption of these products can have an impact on the health of this population, especially since consumption is between 2 or 3 servings due to the presentations of 240 to 500 mL that exist on the market.
