Relación entre la impulsividad, el funcionamiento ejecutivo y el logro académico en estudiantes universitarios

Resumen

La deserción escolar y la reprobación son un problema importante para las universidades, el estudiantado y la sociedad en general. Existen varios factores que se asocian a estas problemáticas, algunos de tipo social y otros individuales. Entre los factores individuales se han destacado los rasgos de personalidad. La impulsividad es un rasgo estable de la personalidad que se caracteriza por un aumento de conductas de riesgo, una toma de decisiones deficiente y la preferencia de las recompensas inmediatas sobre las demoradas. Estos déficits se han asociado a un desempeño subóptimo del funcionamiento ejecutivo. Al respecto, las funciones ejecutivas son el conjunto de procesos cognitivos, que coordinan la conducta, los pensamientos y las emociones para dirigirlos a objetivos o metas específicos. Actualmente, los déficits en la organización, la autorregulación y la planificación, así como la excesiva procrastinación se hicieron evidentes en los estudiantes universitarios durante la implementación de las clases virtuales debido al COVID-19. El presente trabajo pretende analizar la relación entre la impulsividad, el funcionamiento ejecutivo y variables asociadas al logro académico. 101 estudiantes fueron evaluados mediante los instrumentos UPPS-P y BRIEF-A. Los resultados indican que entre la impulsividad y la disfunción ejecutiva existe una correlación significativa y ambas variables se asocian con la calificación obtenida el semestre inmediato anterior, esto nos indica que los alumnos con mejores habilidades de autorregulación presentan mejores calificaciones. Estos resultados permiten identificar las áreas de oportunidad para intervenciones en el ámbito educativo enfocados a incrementar el logro académico.
