Abstract

The importance of breastfeeding in the prevention of dentomaxillofacial anomalies is analyzed. Some of the most significant advantages of breastfeeding for the oral and general health of the children, as well as for their mothers, are explained. It is concluded that breastfeeding favors the growth and development of the masticatory apparatus, prevents the acquisition of deforming oral habits, it contributes to the maturing of breathing and swallowing, improves dental occlusion in further stages of infantile development, prevents dentomaxillofacial anomalies, and contributes to the prevention of dental caries.
