Effectiveness of online training on prevention, management and care measures in COVID-19 in students of the Nursing Degree

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has generated urgent changes in all environments and in education as well. Distance education and training has been established throughout the world and this modality will have to be evaluated. The education of future health professionals in the face of this pandemic must continue and especially if it is to train graduates in nursing. The Objective of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the online training of nursing students to obtain theoretical-practical competences on the management of care of patients with COVID-19. Methodology. It is a descriptive, cross-sectional study in which 427 students were trained remotely, on 5 COVID-19 modules. For statistical analysis, measures of central tendency were calculated using the SPSS statistical package, version 22.0. Results: From a total of 427 students from 8th to 10th semester of the nursing degree with previous knowledge of nursing interventions for the care of patients in the first and second level of care. The distribution by gender was 17.8% (76) male and 81.4% (351) female. Of the first group, 12.5% ​​obtained an average of 9 and in the second group 49.2% an average of 9. Discussion: From the first cases of COVID-19 in China and the quarantine to save in different countries and save distance as a method to reduce infections in the population, there have been changes in all areas, as well as in education where e-learning has become widespread in order to educate and train students. Conclusion: Distance education is effective for training and education in health students in times of pandemic where a healthy distance must prevail to prevent contagio.
