Rehabilitation of ligamentary knee injuries

Abstract

The knee joint plays a fundamental role in the locomotion of the human being, but for this it requires adequate joint stability in its capsuloligamentary apparatus. Ligamentous injuries of the knee are frequent and are characterized by being highly disabling and requiring a prolonged healing period. Each year there are 4 to 10 cases per thousand inhabitants. The most common mechanisms of injury, in men, are sports activities and in women, falls. Ligament injuries related to sports activities and automobile accidents occupy an important place within orthopedic health problems; being the injuries of the anterior cruciate ligaments (ACL) and posterior cruciate ligaments (PCL) the main causes of demand for care in emergency medical services.
