Abstract

This article aims at analyzing in a reflexive way, the causes and consequences of plagiarism. It also seeks to raise awareness among university students and teachers to improve the quality of an academic paper without using plagiarism. It has been wide spread in the classroom and became normal; without awareness of the problems associated; especially for authors. The reasons why this practice is committed are associated to the lack of knowledge and, in some cases, to social values. Among the factors that cause it, we can mention: cultural, economic, academic, and familiar. In this paper, we have compiled some reasons that authors give for plagiarism and "regulations", as well as the perception that society, in general, gives a reflection for a cultural change around this problem.
