Gender violence in secondary care in Hidalgo

Abstract

Objective. To determine associated factors to gender violence in Hidalgo State. Method. 760 female were surveyed in two public hospitals, asking for questions related to physical, psychological, economical and sexual violence on the daily basis of the their lives as a couple. The relationship between gender and associated factors were assessed using measures of association. Results. Variables associated to physics violence were: paternal history of violence OR=4.4 IC95% (3.5, 5.6), unplanned pregnancy OR=1.4 IC95% (1.1, 1.7), lack of support of social net OR=1.2 IC95% (1.1, 1.8), overprotection of the couple OR=1.2 IC95% (1.1, 1.8). The presence of fear to the couple was associated with other acts of psychological violence such as denying the use of the car, prohibition of family visits, and control of the expenses and destruction of personal items. Conclusions. Gender violence is frequent and complex phenomena related with different contexts of the life of a women.
