Tendon reflexes
Abstract
Reflex mechanisms are made up of a receptor organ, an effector organ, and a communication network between them. Reflex action is initiated by an input stimulus and is responded to by an output reflex.
The reflexes obtained in the clinical neurological examination by percussion, with a reflex hammer, of the tendon of a muscle to cause its reflex contraction, to achieve a good response to stimulation it is essential that: the stimulus is sufficiently intense, without being exaggerated, quick. and that the patient is in a state of adequate relaxation of the muscles corresponding to the reflex being explored.
