COVID-19 IN PREGNANCY AND BREASTFEEDING
Abstract
COVID-19 represents a global crisis, because it is an emerging disease with a rapid increase in cases and deaths since its first identification in Wuhan, China in December 2019. In the midst of this outbreak, attention has been focused on a group vulnerable people, pregnant women. It has been described that the SARS-coV-2 virus has a predilection for the ECA2 receptor present at the placental level, conditioning an intrauterine growth restriction and/or preterm delivery. In addition to the above, concerns have been raised about whether the SARS-CoV-2 virus could be transmitted from the COVID-19 positive mother to the newborn through breast milk. That is why in this work a compilation of results of epidemiological studies on the effects of COVID-19 during pregnancy and breastfeeding was addressed.
