Mental Health as a Priority on the Agenda of Public Health Gómez Benumea RA[a]
Abstract
This work aims to evaluate the mental health services resulting from policy mental health implemented in Mexico form 2014 by the Secretary of Health and Public Assistance. To achieve the proposed objective, was carried out a literature review of scholarly articles related to the impact of mental health in Latin America and reports related to the main indications to explore: infrastructure, coverage, quality and efficiency.
Mental health is a priority on the agenda of public health, the divergence between the need for treatment of mental disorders and the provision of services is big around the world. In Latin America and the Caribbean the psychiatric and neurological conditions accounting for 8.8% of the total burden of disease expressed in years of the adjusted by disability and in 2002, this burden increased the 22.2% and the two main causes of mortality at national and international level have a high comorbidity with psychiatric disorders and 10-15% of all primary care consultations correspond to anxiety disorders.
