Abstract

Since the dentition undergoes many changes in the growth process, is the responsibility of the dentist to be alert to any situation which, if not timely intervention, a mal occlusion will evolve on its own. A good example is the premature loss of deciduous teeth.
Space maintainers are a fixed device mostly located in children, in order to prevent the loss of arch length.
In this work the general characteristics of the space maintainers, besides classification, indications and contraindications, as well as a case of a lingual arch from its development to its placement in a female patient who has lost prematurely left second molar first and second lower molar temporary rights.
