Num Pagode em Planaltina by composer Marco Pereira: technical contributions to the Brazilian popular instrumental guitar

This paper pertains to the UFRN's Master in Music research line on the processes and dimensions of art production in the 20th and 21st Centuries, and deals with the solo guitar piece Num Pagode em Planaltina, by the guitarist and composer Marco Pereira (1950). We focus on some playing techniques applied to the style of the Brazilian popular instrumental solo guitar which are featured in this piece. We conclude that the techniques described here, in the form in which they were applied to this piece, represent an important contribution to the Brazilian popular instrumental guitar.
