Measuring and obtaining creep model in elastomers

Keywords: Digital image correlation, strain, creep models, viscoelasticity

Abstract

In this paper, digital image correlation technique was implemented for strain measurement in a rubbery material. This material was tested under short-term creep experiments, which last 10 minutes. The strains measured were plotted and, by employing a viscoelastic model, creep functions were obtained, which can be used to predict strain for longer times. It was demonstrated that the creep behavior of rubber can be fitted to the Burgers viscoelastic model. Also, results obtained demonstrate that digital image correlation technique is a powerful tool for the assessment of viscoelasticity in elastomers.
