Illumination and precursor concentration: effects on P3HT:PCBM

Keywords: active layer, organic solar cells, precursors materials, spin-coating

Abstract

In this work, the effects of lighting conditions and PCBM concentration on the optical and morphological properties of the P3HT:PCBM polymer blend are presented. The thin films were deposited by the spin-coating technique, varying the PCBM concentration from 30, 40, and 50%. After deposition, a heat treatment at 120°C was carried out; performing both processes (deposit and heat treatment) with or without lighting. The optical characterization shows that the increase in PCBM produces a decrease for light absorbed, being higher for the films treated in the dark. Through optical microscope images, it was observed that for 50% of PCBM a phase segregation is generated. Therefore, an adequate blend ratio and lighting adjustment could contribute to the stability of the active layer whose purpose is to be applied in organic solar cells.
