Environmental and genetic factors that influence the development of congenital heart malformations

Keywords: Congenital heart diseases, fetal development, cardiovascular system

Abstract

Congenital heart diseases are a group of disorders of the heart and blood vessels, currently the causes aren’t known, however we can deduce that they occur in the period of the 3rd to 10th week of pregnancy. The objective of this article is to know the factors that occur (environmental and genetic) during gestational age and may predispose to the development of congenital heart malformations.

At present we know that several environmental factors (that surround the mother during gestational age) can influence the correct development of the product, such as the use of drugs, falls, the lack of nutrients in the diet, the lack of control in pregnancy, etc. All this added to a large number of genetic factors.

That’s why it’s complicated to fix only one cause, and we can suspect that there are several factors that predispose these conditions.
