Heat transfer mechanisms
Abstract
The temperature is a physical quantity that refers to the sensation of cold or hot when touching any substance. On the other hand, heat is a transfer of energy from one part to another of a body, or between different bodies, produced by a temperature difference. Heat is energy in transit; it always flows from a higher temperature zone to a lower temperature zone, which raises the temperature of the coldest zone and reduces that of the warmest zone, provided that the volume of the bodies remains constant. Energy does not flow from a low temperature object to a high temperature object if no work is done. Matter is made up of atoms or molecules that are in constant motion, therefore they have energy of position or potential and energy of movement or kinetics. The continuous clashes between atoms or molecules transform part of the kinetic energy into heat, changing the body temperature.
