Abstract

Introduction: Diabetes is a non-communicable disease, generated when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin or the organism cannot use it effectively. It is a disease of multiple causes due to endocrine-metabolic alterations, non-communicable, characterized by chronic hyperglycemia and disorders in the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and proteins. Objective: The objective of this article is to carry out a search to know the different types of insulin, mechanism of action in the body, adverse effects, and importance as a treatment in patients with type 1 and 2 diabetes mellitus in order to offer the patient the best option of insulins to complement your treatment. Methodology: A literature and descriptive review was performed in 20 articles respectively published between 2019 and 2023 being the most current ones. Results and Discussion: Of the 20 articles reviewed, including words such as diabetes, insulins, treatment, resistance, organism, hyperglycemia, a total of 45 articles were found, of which 25 were excluded, based on only 20 of them. Diabetes is one of the major causes of morbidity and mortality, in Mexico the second cause of death is diabetes, mainly in the adult population, in the year 2020. Conclusion: Its current treatment includes the use of insulin, since it is important because it promotes optimal metabolic maintenance with glucose concentrations close to normal, design of physical activities and preparation for behavioral change.
