Laser frenectomy – Clinical case
Abstract
A rare oral pathology at birth is an alteration in the lingual frenulum produced by a short insertion, the main problem at birth is that it hinders the breastfeeding process and these alterations increase with age, leading to speech difficulties, in chewing and swallowing, among others. The indicated treatment is a frenectomy that involves surgical release by using the scalpel of the lingual frenulum to allow the tongue greater freedom in movement and thus correct the alterations that have occurred due to the short insertion of this bridle. An alternative to replace the scalpel is the use of the laser, which in addition to being easy to use, does not cause bleeding, inflammation, postoperative complications and avoid the use of the suture as in the conventional method.
