From Algarabía inorgánica to Rumiantes y fieras: A Brief Walk Through Antonio Deltoro’s Poetic Philosophy of Quietism
Abstract
When readers and academic reviewers talk about the Antonio Deltoro’s poetic work, they have always taken for granted that -from beginning to end- it follows the philosophy of quietism. In this paper I test that idea making a chronological review of all his poetry books. The results of this tour suggest that, despite the general belief, Deltoro’s oeuvre transits through various stages, ranging from the acceleration and excesses of a rookie poet influenced by avant-garde, experimental and fictional literature, to a gradual slow down towards finding his ultimate poetic voice (built by immobility, patience and deep meditations) which gave him a questionless prestigious place in Mexican literature.
