Mexican vegetables with antidiabetic properties
Abstract
In Mexico some vegetables have medicinal properties and have been used since pre-Hispanic times. With the increase in diabetes mellitus (DM) in the population, there is a need to develop strategies for the treatment of this disease with natural products. The different vegetables found in Mexican markets have mechanisms to treat DM, such as reduction of insulin resistance, stimulation of glycogenesis, inhibition of α-glucosidase, among others. It is important to know these Mexican vegetables and their effect against DM in order to use them.
