Abstract

People without one of their limbs are currently experimenting the problem that the prostheses has a high cost, in addition to the time and difficulty of building them in such a way that they adapt to the particular needs of each patient. However, with the rise of new technologies, this problem has a high probability to be solved in short term, due to 3D printing has revolutionized the prosthetic area recently, decreasing the construction times required and the costs of prostheses. This paper shows the methodology used to design and build a functional and aesthetic 3D-printed mechanical prosthetic hand. First version of the built prototype is shown, which was designed specifically for a 6-year-old child with a congenital malformation that did not allow him to develop his right hand. Through the use of the prosthesis by the patient, the necessary modifications were detected, which were corrected in the second version of the hand prosthesis, achieving a decrease in the size and weight of the final prototype. Finally, through the results of the prosthesis v2.0 implementation and making the patient to lift a half-liter bottle of water their functionality it is verified.
