Abstract

This work contains information related to the implementation of computer programs and a CNC milling machine for the manufacture of flat polyethylene specimens. The dimensions of the type I specimen indicated in the ASTM D638-99 standard were considered for the manufacturing of the parts. The computer programs Inkscape and Aspire were used to obtain G code. On the other hand, the computer programs GRBL and Universal G - code sender were implemented for the start-up and control of a CNC milling machine that was manufactured by integrating commercially available electromechanical components. The machining process included the use of a 2 mm diameter flat vertical type WC cutter with four edges. The rotation speed of the tool was set to 4000 revolutions per minute, cutting depth of 0.5 mm and feed of 50 mm min-1. The manufacturing route carried out was suitable for carving polyethylene to obtain bone-type specimens that can be used in experimental work related to the study of mechanical properties.
