Abstract

This essay is an analysis of Joseph Beuy’s performances called “Coyote: I like America and America likes me” which happened at Rene Block Gallery on East Broadway on May 1974.

The paper analyzes the relation between Beuys and Rudolf Steiner’s doctrine “Anthroposophy” as a fundamental part of Beuys’ language and the impulse to heal the relation that exists between Coyote’s spirit and the white occidental man.

It thinks about the elements Beuys used on his works, since each one of them has a meaning on the search of healing the wounded spirit of the sacred animal in order to filled him again with it’s elemental power. It also indicates the importance of the artist as a member of Fluxus and analyzes his performance as a rhizome tissue.
