Evaluation of body condition in Pelibuey sheep in the tropics of Mexico

Keywords: Pelibuey ewes, ultrasound, body reserves, fat

Abstract

Body condition score (BCS) is a way to assess the status of body reserves (mainly fat reserves) an animal has and can help understand the relationship between available feed and sheep needs throughout the production cycle. Some in vivo measurements, such as ultrasound, can be used to predict BCS in multiparous and non-pregnant Pelibuey ewes.
