Derivative spectrophotometry in the quantification of a binary mixture of metformin and sitagliptin in tablets

Keywords: metformin, stagliptin, derivative, spectroscopy, spectrum, absorption

Abstract

In the quantitative analysis of a binary mixture of metformin (Met) and sitagliptin (Sgt) by the derivative spectrometry technique, the first or second derivative cancellation point method is used. One of the advantages of this technique is that the derivative measures the spectral slope and thus the plateau of an absorption spectrum; the maximum and minimum of the first derivative correspond to the inflection points of the spectrum and for the case of the second derivative it corresponds to the curvature of the original spectrum. In this work we first studied the methods of extraction of active principles in combined tablets used to control diabetes Mellitus type 2 with its subsequent application of the modified method of spectrophotometry of derivative ratio with addition of standard for sitagliptin; this is done by the composition of the tablet (Sgt - Met 50 mg - 850 mg).
