Design of an arithmetic logic unit layout using the electric

Abstract

Currently, the presence of integrated circuits in electronic devices is indisputable, yet for many, the operation of these components remains unknown. From a simple voltage comparison to serving as the onboard brain of an aircraft responsible for the proper functioning of all its instruments, integrated circuits play diverse roles. The following work presents the results achieved in creating the layout of a 32-bit ALU integrated circuit, as well as the steps to follow in designing an integrated circuit using The Electric VLSI software tools. This serves as a demonstration of the capabilities of this software, which allows for both 2D layout design and visualization in three dimensions. Additionally, thanks to its SPICE-based simulation tool, it is possible to perform various analyses on designs, all within a single design software environment.
