Control of defects in the modulation of the magnetodielectric effect of BiFeO3 co-doped with Sr and Mn

Abstract

Magnetodielectric multiferroics currently present an innovative alternative in the development of FE-RAMs. The control of them can be carried out using materials such as bismuth ferrite (BiFeO3), however it presents some difficulties to carry out this task, such as antiferromagnetic behavior and the inevitable presence of secondary phases, although these problems can be solved by means of cationic substitution that in turn introduce defects in the crystal structure of BiFeO3. The defects in turn influence the modulation of the magnetodielectric effect. The following work presents the experimental evidence of the control of defects in the crystal structure of BiFeO3 co-doped with Sr2+ and Mn3+ (Bi0.95Sr0.05Fe1-xMnxO3, Δx = 0.1) obtained by mechanical assisted method and its influence on the magnetodielectric properties. By means of X-ray diffraction, the presence of BiFeO3 in its rhombohedral phase was verified. By magnetodielectric tests it was verified that the defects induced by the cationic substitution help in modulating the magnetodielectric properties.
