Influence of environmental deterioration on renal health: a narrative review

Keywords: Kidney disease, environmental, pollution

Abstract

Anthropogenic activities have contributed to the rapid degradation of the environment, which carries a significant risk to the health of people on a global scale. The kidneys are highly sensitive to the characteristics of people's environment, so aspects such as pollution, water scarcity or global warming are ways through which environmental deterioration can have an impact on kidney health. Because kidney disease usually develops gradually without presenting clinical manifestations in the early stages, it is important to know the potential factors associated with its appearance with the intention of being able to undertake preventive measures, especially in populations with a higher risk of exposure to these factors. For this reason, this manuscript presents a narrative review about the possible causes of kidney disease derived from the deterioration of the environment.
