The importance of biotechnology in health sciences: a review
Abstract
Biotechnology is an interdisciplinary field, in which various methodologies and tools are used that focus on the transformation of living organisms or substances derived from these organisms that can be directed to a specific problem.
On the one hand, biotechnology can help to introduce phenotypic and genotypic characteristics into crops, which allow the production of nutrient-enriched foods and can help reduce malnutrition in the susceptible population, in addition to involving biotechnological bases in the generation of forecasting and diagnostic techniques in both non-communicable diseases and diseases in which an infectious agent is involved, whether we talk about the generation of recombinant proteins, vaccines and molecular diagnostic techniques, which in short we can talk about the stability and/or recovery of the population’s health.
Another important field of biotechnology is the use of microorganisms and bioremediation of soils, water, waste, etc.
Therefore, this manuscript presents a review of the contributions of biotechnology in the health sciences, through the development of genetically modified crops nutritionally enriched tools, molecular diagnosis, vaccines, and waste management
