The role of amygdala and its relationships with emotions

Keywords: Amygdala, Brain, Emotions

Abstract

The brain includes an infinity of regions of which it is important to localize, analyze and recognize their functions with the purpose of how they are interpreted in the behavior as well as in the process of thoughts - emotions that are developed in a region called limbic system by a series of complex structures, located in the thalamus and below the cerebral cortex; in other words, it is the main responsible for the affective life and participates in the creation of memory. Today, research has revealed that the limbic system is associated with the control of emotion, motivation, behavior, decision making, initiative, maintenance or survival of the individual or species, as well as memory and learning, and can trigger pathological and/or emotional problems. This essay is based on the role of the amygdala as well as its relationship with other regions in decision making.
