About the audience. The Mexican Journal of Medical Research ICSA is a resource that offers to all readers from the health sciences (basic and clinical researchers, clinician and non-clinician people, and to all health sciences students) access to up-to-date information on the different disciplines related. As an open access journal, all readers have unrestricted access to all the publications.

The Mexican Journal of Medical Research ICSA is a peer-reviewed journal that publishes original research articles, review articles, and clinical cases in all areas of health research. The Mexican Journal of Medical Research ICSA publishes only original articles and these manuscripts must not have been published previously. The journal welcomes submission from researchers at all levels of health sciences and from all over the world. All the manuscripts are published under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International Public License (CC-BY 4.0) (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/legalcode), which allows the use, distribution and reproduction of the material without restrictions, without commercial purposes, in any medium, provided that the work is properly cited. As an author, you have certain rights; the journal offers free PDFs and a liberal copyright policy. Currently, no payment is requested to the authors to publish their manuscripts in the journal. Actually, the Mexican Journal of Medical Research ICSA is indexed in the institutional index and in Google Scholar.

Human and animal rights

Ethical principles for publication occur to guarantee high-quality basic or clinical scientific publications in the health sciences, public trust in scientific findings, and to protect the right of the subjects in investigation. All photographs of person must be accompanied by signed releases or have all recognizable features masked. Manuscripts reporting on the results of experimental investigation on human subjects must include a statement that informed consent was obtained after the procedure was fully explained and approval given to the study by the Human Studies Review Committee, or equivalent committee, at the principal institution. It should also be stated whether the procedures followed were in accordance with the ethical standards of the responsible committee on human experimentation (institutional or regional) and with the Helsinki Declaration. Reports on experiments on animals should indicate whether the institution's or the National Research Council's guide for, or any national law on, the care and use of laboratory animals was followed.

Ethics in publishing

All the manuscripts must be original material. The journal uses an institutional software to detect instances of overlapping and similar text in submitted manuscripts. Articles with suspected plagiarism will be returned to the authors for correction. Duplicate manuscript, data fabrication and/or falsification will be returned to the authors for correction.

All listed authors must have made a significant scientific contribution to the research in the manuscript and approved all its claims. It is important to list everyone who made a significant scientific contribution, including students and laboratory technicians.

Submission and Peer Review

All new manuscripts must be submitted to the university page: https://www.uaeh.edu.mx/campus/icsa/index.html. Manuscripts must be written in English. Authors are requested to submit the text, tables, and artwork in electronic form (as a word format) to this address. In an accompanying letter, authors should state that the manuscript, or parts of it, have not been and will not be submitted elsewhere for publication and are not currently under consideration by another journal or any other publisher. The submitting author (corresponding author) is responsible for ensuring that the manuscript’s publication has been approved by all the other coauthors. It is also the authors' responsibility to ensure that the articles emanating from a particular institution are submitted with the approval of the necessary institution.

Submission items include a cover letter (save as a separate file for upload), the manuscript (including title page, abstract, keywords, manuscript text, references, and table/figure legends), tables, and figures. The preferred order of files is as follows: cover letter, manuscript file(s), table(s), and figure(s).

The Cover letter must include a conflict of interest statement for all authors. Please either indicate the lack of conflict (i.e. nothing to disclose) or list possible conflicts for each named author. Conflicts of Interest include financial or other relationships that could be perceived to influence the manuscript.

All correspondence, including the Editor's decision and request for revisions, will be by e-mail or electronic format. Previously published tables and illustrations must be referenced correctly, and written permission from any copyright holders included with the manuscript.

The Mexican Journal of Medical Research ICSA has an eminent editorial board group of 15 members, all of whom are recognized experts in their field. Peer review is the critical assessment of manuscripts submitted to our journal by experts who are not part of the editorial staff. All papers submitted to The Mexican Journal of Medical Research are subject to an initial review by the Editor and an expert researcher of the editorial committee. After that, the paper is sent to be peer reviewed by outside independent reviewers.

After Acceptance. Manuscript accepted for publication are typeset and proofs are dispatched to authors for any corrections prior to final publication. Authors must check the proofs and return these within 48 hours.

Length

Original research articles, review articles and clinical cases must be less than 10,000 words in length. The word count includes quotations, but excludes the abstract, keywords, references, figures and tables.

Original Research articles

Manuscripts must be typed double-spaced with at least 1 inch margins. The manuscript must include the following arranged in this order: Title Page, Structured Abstract and Keywords, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, and References. Number pages consecutively, beginning with the Title Page.

  1. Title Page. The title page should include author's first and middle initials and last name. Country, State, City, Institution, department must be mentioned. Indicate all affiliations with a lower-case superscript letter immediately after the author's name and write it in front of the address. Name, telephone number, FAX number, email address, and address of author responsible for correspondence concerning the manuscript.

  1. Authorship credit should be based on a) substantial contributions to conception and design, acquisition of data, or analysis and interpretation of data; b) drafting the article or revising it critically for important intellectual content; and c) final approval of the version to be published. Authors should meet conditions a, b, and c. Acquisition of funding, collection of data, or general supervision of the research group alone does not constitute authorship. All persons designated as authors should qualify for authorship, and all those who qualify should be listed. Each author should have participated sufficiently in the work to take public responsibility for appropriate portions of the content. All contributors who do not meet the criteria for authorship should be listed in an acknowledgments section.

  1. Structured Abstract and Keywords. An abstract of no more than 250 words. The abstract should include: Introduction, Study Objective, Material and Methods, Results and Conclusions. Below the abstract, provide 3 to 10 keywords or short phrases to assist in cross-indexing the article. Use terms from the medical subject heading (MeSH) list of Index Medicus, if possible.

  1. Introduction. The introduction should contain a brief background and the objective of the study and should acquaint the reader with the current state of knowledge in the area under investigation.

  1. Materials and Methods. This section should contain a brief but adequate description of the experimental design, patients and/or animal models and controls and methods and procedures. The statistical methods used in the study should be appropriately referenced. Specify any general use computer programs used.

  1. Results. This section should be presented in a concise, easily understood manner, which may necessitate use of figures and tables to illustrate detailed findings. Duplication of text and supporting material should be avoided.

  1. Discussion. The discussion should focus on the specific findings of the study, its interpretation and how the new information relates to what has been published previously. Repetition of material presented in the Introduction or in Materials and Methods should be avoided. Interpretation of statistical analysis should be included in the Discussion.

  1. Conclusion. This should clearly explain the main conclusions of the work highlighting its importance and relevance. Duplication of results should be avoided.

  1. Figures should be submitted in colors or in black and white and numbered consecutively in the order of their appearance in the manuscripts. Each figure must be accompanied by a descriptive legend. Type legends for figures double-spaced.

  1. Tables. Type each table double-spaced on a separate sheet. Do not submit tables as photographs. Number tables consecutively in the order of their first citation in the text and supply a brief title for each. Place explanatory matter in footnotes, not in the heading. Explain in footnotes all nonstandard abbreviations that are used in table.

  1. Acknowledgements. Individuals who contributed significantly to the research or preparation of the manuscript may be acknowledged.

  1. References. The Mexican Journal of Medical Research ICSA use the Vancouver Style. It is a numerical system. References in the text should be numbered consecutively in the order in which they appear in the manuscript and cited by superscript with no parentheses. References are not to be listed alphabetically. All references must be cited in the text. Guarantee that every reference cited in the body text is also present in the reference list (and vice versa). References should be typed double-spaced, and journal names abbreviated according to the Index Medicus. List all authors if six or less; otherwise list first six and add “et al”. Do not use periods after authors’ initials. Examples:
