Production of vermicompost from organic waste
Abstract
Civil Engineering students of first semester performed a review on composting and experimented qualitatively using the vermicomposting technique within the Fundamentals of Research Methodology course. During the process, the students were able to observe the gradual changes in the organic matter and the earthworms: from the characteristic smell of organic wastes to the middle aged reclaimable compost and the increase in the number of earthworms. This type of research seeks to develop the comprehensive training of students, applying not only the concepts and techniques of Fundamentals of Research Methodology course, but also becoming aware of the importance of improving their environment.
