Kinetics of grinding of the tailings of the Pachuca – Real del Monte district, State of Hidalgo, Mexico

Keywords: Grinding, silver, tailings, kinetics

Abstract

In the present study, the grinding kinetics size by size and species by species of the Dos Carlos Tailings of the city of Pachuca, Hidalgo, Mexico were carried out; presenting an average chemical composition in % of 70.43 of SiO2, 7.032 of Al2O3, 2.69 of Fe2O3, 0.70 of Mn, 3.98 of K2O, 3.34 of CaO, 2.50 of Na2O, 1.01 of MgO, 0.26 of TiO2, 0.04 of Zn, 0.026 of Pb, 56 g / ton of Ag and 0.6 g / ton of Au; being appreciated as the majority mineralogical phases: quartz, albite, argentite, berlinite, orthoclase, silver-bearing potassium jarosite, silver-bearing sodium jarosite, feldspar, Anortoclase, Calcite. The experimental results show that as the grinding time increases to values between 32 and 46 minutes, the distribution of the metallic contents is very similar and they are given by the range of 200 to 400 meshes, the maximum specific speed of global grinding (size by size) and by species corresponding to 200 mesh, for sizes smaller than 200 mesh a decrease in the specific speed is generated by species (silver), determining that the optimal grinding time found under these studied conditions was 8 minutes.
