Effective Newtonian potential from brane worlds and quantum gravitational well

Keywords: Extra dimensions, gravitational quantum well, brane worlds, Newtonian potential

Abstract

In extra dimensional theories, Newtonian gravitational potential is modified at short distances. In some models of brane worlds, the corrections to Newtonian gravitational potential obey a power-law. This paper will analyze the corrections to the energy spectrum for the first two states of a quantum particle immersed in a gravitational quantum well considering that the corrections to gravitational potential is due to a power law. The results obtained are compared with the experimental data obtained from the GRANIT experiment, where the effect of the Earth’s gravitational field on the quantum states of ultra-cold neutrons are measured. This comparison leads to upper bounds on the extra dimension scenario parameter.
