Implications of international migration from the rural adolescent perspective

Abstract

The objective of this reflection focuses on a sector of the population little addressed in migration studies, adolescents as subjects left in the care of their family, they and they remain as observers of the arrangements and adjustments of their homes before migration, sometimes they are assigned the support work in the activities left by the absent migrants, few times have they reflected on the impressions or feelings that being children of migrants causes them. Adolescents who study at the telesecundaria level were approached, to ask them about the impacts that their father's migration had on their person and family. In the data collected, up to three generations of migrants to the United States can be documented: grandparents, parents and siblings; Adolescents, unlike their parents, do not consider themselves to be migrant candidates, but they have a clear position and feelings regarding the migration of members of their family. This reflection focuses on some of the effects of transnational migration on adolescents who live in migratory contexts in a region with a long history of rural and indigenous migration to the United States of America.
