Resumen

This overview presents artificial intelligence (AI) tools, especially in the field of language learning. After a short introduction, what artificial intelligence actually is and what it means in simplified terms for language teaching, specific narrow AI techniques and mechanisms for language learning will be discussed, as well as the role of the teacher and the practicability of AI-powered feedback mechanisms in language learning. In the practical part, an AI-supported tool will be analysed for its practical suitability in language teaching scenarios considering specific methodological parameters. The paper concludes with a discussion about the relevance and role of the teacher in the environment of digital-based technologies and gives an outlook on further trends in AI-based language learning.
