Improvement of the wear resistance of dies for hot forging using tool grade steels alloyed with Vanadium and Boron Main Subtitle English

Abstract

Due to the fact that the wear of machinery and tooling parts has a direct influence on the productivity, efficiency, reliability and quality of the manufactured products, advances have been implemented in the design of tool grade steels with emphasis on the improvement of the wear resistance to by adding vanadium, molybdenum and boron. The objective of this research work is to manufacture a tool grade steel (type H13) with improved wear resistance by adding Vanadium + Boron to potentially be used in hot forging dies. An improvement in wear resistance was obtained with the vanadium and boron alloy, which translates into an extension in the useful life of the forging dies. The addition of vanadium and boron produced a stable wear factor at a temperature of 22°C and 400°C
