Abstract

Objective. To determine the socioeconomic status of pediatric cancer patients who receive a diagnosis and treatment at the Hospital del Niño DIF in Pachuca, Hidalgo.

Materials and Method. We conducted 30 surveys parents and guardians of pediatric patients receiving care at the medical unit during the period of June to November 2013.

Results. Respondents were women of 34 years accompanying pediatric patients 9 years (males). As well, 85% of patients are diagnosed lymphoblastic leukemia in a time of 19 months and are treated immediately after diagnosis in the medical unit. The parents have a basic education level. Regarding 37% occupied homes are loaned to five people per household, have all basic services but only has access to additional services for communication without access to a distraction or time dispersion, socioeconomic, 27% ​​and 73% level on average .Conclusion. These families indicate that, the biggest problem is transportation, and that most of the drug is provided to them. 67 % of parents are satisfied with the service provided at the medical unit.
